A Crazy Busy Time!

Things are getting busy for everyone around this time of year, but did you know that the holiday season is one of the busiest times of the year for your dentist?  There are a few facts that you should consider when deciding whether you should come and see your dentist during this hectic time of the year.

Insurance Benefits:

Imagine if you had a bank account that had $2500.00 in it.  Every single year no matter how much was left in the account it would revert to $2500.00 on Jan. 1st.  Would you leave any of that $2500.00 in the bank account come Dec. 31st?  Well that is the way that many dental insurance plans effectively function.

Most dental insurance plans operate on a calendar year basis with a “use it or lose it” benefit amount.  If you haven’t used all of your dental insurance benefits for the calendar year you should consult with your general dentist to see if you need a cleaning or have some treatment pending that you have been putting off.  The end of the year is approaching and you should make sure you get the most out of your dental insurance.

Timing:

Most of us will be traveling this holiday season, seeing family and friends, or heading somewhere warmer; but, for those few that will still be in town during the holidays this is an excellent time to get the kids in to see the dentist for that end of year cleaning and checkup.

During the school year it may have been hard to arrange to get them out of school, but the winter break presents an excellent opportunity to get them in to see the dentist, and to get them out of the house for a couple of hours.

New Year’s Resolutions:

Everyone has made a few New Year’s resolutions in their time, but it is so passé to follow the crowd and wait until December 31st to get started on the list.  Why not get a head start?  Why not be avant garde, counter-cultural, and trend-setting?  You want those straighter teeth and that whiter smile?  Well there is no time like the present, give your dentist a call today and beat the New Year’s rush!

Happy Thanksgiving!

Here at Dr. Kauffman’s, we are always thankful for the wonderful patients that have gifted us with their presence and trust.  The opportunity to help ensure bright and healthy smiles is something that we never take for granted.  So from all of us at Dr. Kauffman’s

THANK YOU!

You’re already six months into the year, and if you haven’t come for a regular check-up yet, now is the time to schedule.

May was re-commitment month. That can extend to re-committing to a New Year’s Resolution workout routine and certainly means re-committing to taking steps to protect your dental health.

Dr. Kauffman recommends most of his patients visit the dentist at least twice yearly. The reason for this is that bacteria are constantly invading your mouth, collecting and hardening into plaque and tartar. This process typically takes about six months to fully take hold. By visiting Dr. Kauffman’s Atlanta family dentistry office twice yearly, you can help keep cavities at bay.

Some exceptions do exist to the twice-yearly rule. This includes patients who have had a significant history of dental decay and disease who may need more frequent cleanings and fluoride treatments to strengthen their teeth. This is also true for patients who have conditions or take medications that cause dry mouth. Examples could include patients with diabetes or patients who take medications for depression and/or high blood pressure. If you have these conditions, it’s important to let Dr. Kauffman know as he can recommend treatments to maintain saliva flow and reduce the risk for cavities.

Your dental health and your overall health are closely related. So don’t ignore either this summer…re-commitment today to a healthier smile for the rest of 2014.

If you haven’t visited Dr. Kauffman’s Atlanta dentistry office in some time, please call (404) 524-1981 to schedule an appointment. Our caring and friendly staff will be happy to see you.
